Last year, the EU and its member states brought <a href=\"https:\/\/corporateeurope.org\/en\/2023\/12\/eu-floods-cop28-climate-talks-fossil-fuel-lobbyists-0\">more than 130<\/a> fossil fuel lobbyists to COP28. They included senior executives from Eni and BP, as well as ExxonMobil&#8217;s chief lobbyist in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why 112 civil society organisations <a href=\"https:\/\/fossilfreepolitics.org\/uncategorized\/112-orgs-tell-hoekstra-not-to-bring-fossil-fuel-lobbyists-to-cop29\/\">wrote to<\/a> European Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, asking him not to bring fossil fuel lobbyists to COP29 on the EU Delegation.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, the organisations raised strong concerns over the dominance of the fossil fuel industry&#8217;s voice in discussions to halt global heating and demanded Hoekstra support measures that protect decision-making from the influence of the oil and gas industry, like what happens with the tobacco industry.<\/p>\n<p>A similar message is being passed to national-level ministers in 9 countries across Europe, with groups calling on them to not bring fossil fuel lobbyists to COP29 (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK).<\/p>\n<p>The letters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fossilfreepolitics.org\/uncategorized\/112-orgs-tell-hoekstra-not-to-bring-fossil-fuel-lobbyists-to-cop29\/\">Letter from 112 organizations to Hoekstra<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.recommon.org\/cop29-e-lobby-del-fossile-lettera-aperta-ai-ministri-pichetto-fratin-e-urso-e-alla-presidente-del-consiglio-meloni\/\">Letter to italian ministers<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COP29 is around the corner, and we can be certain that fossil fuel lobbyists won\u2019t stay at home, as they<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":21395,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1083],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-21394","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-articles"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
